Tired of ads and pop ups? Who isn’t? Well, in this post I am going to write the different ways in which u can fight ads and pop ups using Firefox or Flock and the amazing extensions that exist for both.

First we need the latest version of either browser. Open up the browser and Goto Help > About. If you are using Firefox the version should say 1.5.0.4 and Flock should say 0.7.3. If you have an older version, goto Help > Check for updates and once the update is done restart the browser.

Next step is extensions. For those of you who don’t know what an extension is, it is an add-on to the browser which we can install to enhance user experience. Firefox users can goto https://addons.mozilla.org and checkout all the extensions and themes available for download. Flock user can head over to http://extensions.flock.com/extensions . Something to note here is that the difference between a Firefox extension and a Flock extension is just a few lines of code. So a firefox extension can be edited and used in Flock. So to block ads we need 2 extensions. Once is Adblock Plus and the other is Adblock Filterset.G Updater. Think of Adblock Plus as an anti-virus program and Filterset.G as the virus definitions/database. So, lets install Adblock Plus. Both Firefox and Flock users can install Adblock Plus from here: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1865/
That is because the author of the extension has put in code so that the extension works in Flock too. The way u can identify if an extension from Mozilla Add-ons works in Flock or not is put the mouse pointer on the ‘Install Now’ link and check the status bar at the bottom of the page. The last part of the link would say something like ..adblock_plus-0.7.1.1-fx+fl+zm.xpi

Here fx mean Firefox, fl means Flock and zm or sm means seamonkey. So this tell us that this extension is compactible in Flock. So now click on Install Now. A new window will pop up and after the countdown is done Click on install. Once the installation is done we need to restart the browser
